Despite its humble foundations, Black Gold Motel has established itself amongst some of the best hotels in Australia for service. Trip Advisor awarded us the 2020 Travellers Choice “Best of the Best” award for service which placed us #5 in Australia & #11 in South Pacific.
The walls of the Black Gold Motel carry echoes of the region’s mining history. The name ‘Black Gold’ is derived from the local coal mining industry. The coal was nicknamed ‘black gold’. The buildings of the Motel have fond memories for generations of locals who attended the school, and the boutique property stands as a proud icon of the town. In recognition of the property’s history, many rooms are named after school teachers & local mines to celebrate the rich industrial history of the area.
